Dahlia Noir, Givenchy’s first fragrance under creative director Riccardo Tisci

Givenchy will launch a new women's perfume from the end of August 2011 called Dahlia Noir (Black Dahlia). The perfume was designed by art director Ricardo Tisci and is co-signed by perfumer François Demachy. Dahlia Noir will continue to develop the trend for powdery fragrances which we have seen pick up with Love, Chloé as it is being advertized as a powdery floral chypre inspired by Tisci's childhood memories of his mother...

Like for many nostalgic scents since Ombre Rose by milliner Jean-Charles Brosseau, Ricardo Tisci's mother is evoked through the powdery palette of the scent alluding to makeup notes.

At the same time, the story of the scent reportedly pays homage to James Ellroy's noir novel The Black Dahlia about the gruesome Hollywood murder of the 40s involving starlet Elizabeth Short.

The perfume opens on top notes of pink peppercorn, mandarin and mimosa. The heart rests on rose, iris, patchouli. Base notes are sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean.

The advertising campaign is fronted by model Mariacarla Boscono. It reprises some of the aesthetics we have seen in the ad for Givenchy EauDemoiselle, where model Magdalena Frackowiak was wearing a black Ricardo Tisci cape.

Dahlia Noir launches on August 22, 2011 in France. A 50 ml bottle of the Eau de Parfum is priced at 82€.
